Leonard Cohen Loves You
It's funny, but every time I talk to people about Jeff Buckley
(sidenote: I'm not an expert on Jeff Buckley. He just seems to come up a
lot for some reason.) they say that they love his cover of Leonard Cohen's
"Hallelujah". Without fail. Maybe they really don't know that much about
Jeff Buckley either, but the cover seems just obscure enough that if they
mention it, they'll seem knowledgeable. This is name dropping of the
worst sort, but I'll admit: I've done it once or twice. Or something.
Anyway, I finally downloaded the song. And they were right. It's a
really good cover. I think I heard it in a movie once, because it seems
really familiar. There's some string inside of me that ties this song
to sadness. It's funny how those kind of connections go on even after
their source has been forgotten.
