I was innocently browsing bbspot.com when I found a reference to a Wil Wheaton web log. In middle school, I had the HUGEST crush on Wil Wheaton. Then again, who didn't have an enormous crush on somebody famous in middle school? I console myself with the fact that I never subscribed to Tiger Beat... Anyway, I went to his web page, and the thing is designed by the man himself. He's pretty open and honest and it's actually pretty cool. Funny. Solid. Whatever.
I've been feeling lately like my intellectual curiosity took a flaming nose dive into some remote mountain in a forgotten desert.. Making it unrecoverable. But then I started reading this web page. And it linked EVERYWHERE. I read articles, and other people's web logs, and found this, that and the other. It's the first time in a long time that I've been drowning in windows. There was so much I wanted to read that I couldn't absorb it fast enough. I had my fingers in so many electronic pies that I should have been electrocuted.
But that's a good thing. Something inside me that I thought had died has been reawakened and is now prowling the vast wasteland of the internet.
I've been reading more about this web log phenomenon. Regular people just... Posting their lives out on the internet in the hopes that someone will stumble on it and start reading. Start reading about anything. What you ate for breakfast. How much your hate your boyfriend. If Buddy was the best character on Charles In Charge. Anything. And I have to give props.
Granted, some of the web logs suck. They're written by the sub-literate, struggling to put together sentences about their dull, dull days. But some of them were actually pretty interesting. And that makes me happy. My all time favorite was A Short And Happy Life but now kthor has decided not to update it anymore... And that makes me sad. Because he was a really good writer. For real, yo.
I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm rambling into the void. But I look at those web logs, and then look at the hits that my page gets, and... Wonder if there's anyone out there who's actually bothering to read this garbage. What do you think?
