I remember driving to the bank when I was very young, and an AM radio station was blaring. We were in the Chevy Nova. "The Boxer" came on and we cruised toward the bank screaming a chorus of "li li li"'s. I remember.
My musical taste has expanded since then. There are hundreds of new bands. There are thousands of new singles. There is a raucous chorus of songs flowing through my mind, yet... Somehow, there's nothing more comforting than returning to the old favorites. Going back to what's familiar. Cherishing Paul Simon. Embracing Billy Joel. Curling up with Pink Floyd.
There are nights like this one when all I want in the world is to be wrapped up in the old songs. I want to be safe with the ghosts of my parents and lost childhood. I want to snuggle up inside of this feeling and live it forever.
