That part isn't too important, though. There's this other part in the middle of the song where a girl is speaking to her new husband and says, "Tell me why, why don't we drive through the night and wake up down in Mexico? He said I, I don't know nothing about nothing about no Mexico. And she said why, why don't you love me for who I am, where I am? He said cause that's not the way the world is, baby. This is how I love you, baby."
I always almost cry when he gets to that part of the song. There's something about longing in there. Something about wanting things to be better. Something about needing to be counted and recognized for what you are. And his response is that it's just not possible because that's not how the world is. This is it. And it's not going to get any better.
I guess that's how most relationships are. Everyone is so complex and relationships are so complex and EVERYTHING is so complex. But all we really want is for someone to look at us and say, "Yes. I understand what you're all about. I see you for who you are and I like that person."
But that very rarely happens.
Very.
Rarely.
